Who has the biggest teeth? Of course, in animals. They need teeth for food, defense and attack, and even for comfortable movement. And if we start talking about tusks, like teeth (in principle, the way it is), then the biggest teeth are of narwhal.
This is a cetacean. It is also sometimes called the sea unicorn. It is found narwhal in the Arctic Ocean and in the North Atlantic. The length of the animal is quite impressive and is about four meters. And newborns are born “just” one and a half meters. Males weigh up to 1.5 tons, females are smaller - up to 900 kilograms. The animal has only two teeth, but which ones. The left one develops into a tusk up to three meters long and weighing 10 kilograms, it is twisted, as a rule, in a spiral to the left. But the right tooth in males and both females develops quite rarely, the probability of its occurrence is one in five hundred cases. Broken off tusks again do not grow back, and the dental canal, in case of loss of bone, is closed with bone filling. Narwhal tusks are very strong and flexible. The ends can be bent by 31 centimeters in any direction without breaking.
The Indian elephant also has impressive dimensions. Such individuals grow to a height of 3.5 meters, weighing about 5.5 tons. These are males, and if we talk about females, then it is about one and a half to two times less. And it is not surprising that such huge animals have huge teeth. However, tusks develop in males and very rarely in females. The length of each reaches 1.6 meters, with a weight of 25 kilograms. During the year, the tusk of an elephant increases by an average of 17 centimeters. By the way, among the Indian elephants there are males completely without tusks. In India, these are called Mahna. Quite often, such animals are found in the northeast of the country. And almost 95% of the deadless elephants live in Sri Lanka.
Other animals that are famous for their big teeth are walruses. They live in the Arctic Ocean. And have fangs 60-80 centimeters long. Animals get food by them, so the teeth play a very useful, one might say, primary role.
But other animals have tusks and teeth are not that big. However, bony growths are different in size from boars and female musk deer. In these animals, teeth differ in length. Scientists explain the size of teeth by the fact that during the evolutionary process boars and musk deer tried to adapt to the harsh living conditions in their natural environment. They got food from their most inaccessible depths (there was especially a lot of it, because it was difficult to get it).
However, if we talk about the teeth of the usual understanding, then dinosaurs can become the leader in size. Portuguese scientists have found a tooth length of 12.7 centimeters. This confirms the huge dinosaur theory that inhabited our planet many millions of years ago. In Spain, experts found another tooth.
But among people the owner of the largest teeth is difficult to identify. In humans, as a rule, standard teeth are a maximum centimeter long, and exceptions are impossible here. However, fashion trends force young men and women to go to desperate acts and artificially build up their teeth, mainly fangs are used. The picture is obtained, though original, but unpleasant for others.
