Some secrets are revealed only to the elect.
“The gospel is a book of faith, freedom and conscience, and not a book of laws and rules. The gospel must be read and understood by a living spirit, the depth of one’s own faith, one’s own freedom and one’s own conscience — and not a formal reason. The gospel contains a certain gracious and free Spirit; and he must be accepted by his own personal spirit. Not flat and sober, philistine-reasoning mind, but with its free, conscientious and spiritual gazing, with its ability to contemplate with the heart and believe with vision. Then it turns out that the Gospel is not a book that binds a person to the rules, but a living stream of love and vision, pouring into the soul and awakening in it the deepest sources of personal spirituality ... "(I. A. Ilyin. Basics of Christian Culture. P. 3: “The Right Way”).
I would like to add the following to the profound religious-philosophical and poetic words of the Russian philosopher, writer and publicist I. A. Il'in. StGospel Inspirational and multifaceted. It is also the Doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven; Teaching how to come into the kingdom; A symbol and unsurpassed example of love; The basis of salvation and the narration of who and what price brought it to the people!
It should be noted that the Gospel contains dogmatic, mystical, moral, and other aspects and is not easy to understand. After all, no wonder Sts. Fathers and teachers of the Church have left us so many interpretations of the verses of the Gospel!
For why interpret what is so simple to understand?
And the Savior teaches us that the secrets of Scripture are not revealed to everyone:"... I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, you hid this from the wise and prudent and revealed it to the babies" (Matt. 11: 25). And Sts. Fathers instruct us about the same, for example, St. John Chrysostom: “... Calling them wise, speaks not of true and worthy wisdom, but of that which they ascribed to their forces. Therefore, he does not say: he opened them to madmen, but: to infants, that is, unfeigned, simple ... ”(see the interpretation on Matt. 11:25); bl Theophylact Bulgarian: "God does not reveal His secrets to many" (see the interpretation on Matthew 11: 25).
And the famous interpreter of the Bible A. P. Lopukhin says the same thing:"... they do not know and can not understand the simple mysteries or truths of the Kingdom of God, open to people with a pure heart that resemble babies" (see the interpretation of Matthew 11:25).Another interpreter of the Gospel of Gladkov, for example, writes that the parable of the wrong
m ruler"It is considered ... so difficult that some interpreters completely refuse to explain it ...".
Thus, the meaning of the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as the words of the interpreters of the Holy Gospel, including Sts. fathers, clearly and unequivocally shows us thatThe gospel is not clear to everyone, but only to certain people.- “unfeigned, simple”, “people with a pure heart who are like babies.”
In other words, people with certain features, or special people (not to be confused with selected people!).
About the fact that some secrets are revealed only to the elect.(i.e., to those whom the Lord himself wants to reveal)say other words of the Savior:“... no one knows the Son except the Father; and no one knows the Father, except the Son, and to whom the Son wants to reveal ”(Matt. 12: 27).
HAPPY BELIEVING IN FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE, GIVEN BY TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF ST. EVANGELIA!
