Features of the location of Urengoy
The village of Urengoy is located in the Purovsky districtYamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. It is located on the right bank of the river Pur, near the confluence of the rivers Bolshaya Khadiryah and Evo-Yakha into it. This is due to the proximity of the village to the river port. In addition, Urengoi is only 70 km from the Arctic Circle.
The first settlement on the right bank of the River Puremerged in 1932, so Urengoy is a relatively young but dynamically developing village. In translation from Nenets and Khanty, its name means "tall grass". Already in 1979 the settlement received the status of an urban settlement. Such a rapid development is due to the opening of the Urengoy gas field, which is of special importance not only for Russia, but also for the global gas industry.
Today in the village of Urengoy there is an Orthodox church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin in the Temple, two schools, three kindergartens, a children's sports school and a cultural and sports complex.
